Working cats live their lives outdoors on their own terms “working” by capturing mice and other vermin. These cats are also referred to as “barn cats” or “mousers.” They are often “feral” (not acclimated to living with humans), and usually live in barns or other rural structures. Owners of working cats provide shelter, food, and water. A short period of adjustment is all that is typically needed for these cats to acclimate to their new home. The cats are sterilized, ear tipped, and vaccinated for rabies. A minimum of two cats must be adopted at a time. There is no adoption fee for working cats.
